The Games Returns to Channel 4 this March

25 February, 2006 by The_Boss

Last year viewers witnessed Jonathon Morris dramatically walk, Mel Giedroyc shine on the gym floor and Kirsty Gallacher being crowned ‘Champion’ and now the ultimate celebrity sporting challenge The Games returns to Channel 4 & E4 for a fourth series.

Jamie Theakston will be joined by Kirsty Gallacher to present the tournament live from Sheffield and for the first time in the series, The National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

Ten more famous faces compete against each other in a total of 18 sporting disciplines over nine days to be broadcast on Channel 4 and E4 in March.

Competing to be the male and female champions of The Games 2006 will be:

Bernie Nolan, Javine, Michelle Gayle, Amanda Lamb, Liberal Democrat MP Julia Goldsworthy, Peter Duncan, ex Damage star Jade Jones, Radio One DJ, JK (Jason King), Goldie and MC Plat’num aka Marcel Somerville from the Blazin Squad.

Before entering the tournament, the celebrities will spend a gruelling three months in intensive training with world-class sporting experts and athletes. They will be required to become adept at a range of sports including the water ski jump, speed skating and, for the first time in this tournament, White Water Kayak Slalom, Kendo and Archery.

During the competition, the celebrities will not only battle to win that coveted gold medal, they will also compete on behalf of their chosen charities. The pressure will be on as every night they will compete before a live audience and under the critical eye of a team of international standard judges.

Returning The Games Champions; Shane Lynch, Romeo, Lady Isabella Hervey, Linda Lusardi, Kirsty Gallacher, Princess Tamara, Kevin Simm and Chesney Hawkes will compete against the 2006 winners in a nail-biting finish to the series at Pond’s Forge Swimming Pool.

Straight after the live competition on Channel 4, comedian Justin Lee Collins and Caroline Flack will present The Games: Live From Trackside. E4 viewers will witness the immediate reactions from the 10 celebrities after they have competed against each other.

When they’re not competing against each other, the celebrities will live together in the purpose-built athletes’ village in the Don Valley Stadium Sheffield. C4 & E4 viewers will get an exclusive insight into what goes on before and after each event via live streaming.

How do they prepare for the nightly events and how do they wind down afterwards? Will the tension from the competition boil over into their living quarters?

And who are the rivals both in and out of the sporting arenas?
