Highlights of Sunday 23rd Oct 2005

Sunday 23rd Oct 2005

Sunday evening seems one of those rare Sundays with a real challenge between the channels for viewers.

At 8pm on BBC1 the last episode ever of Monarch of the Glen is screened. Whilst on BBC2 at the same time Trafalgar 200: Nelson - Legend and Legacy will no doubt attract those of us with an interest in History.

AT 9pm the choice is hard to make with Waking the Dead on BBC1.

Jericho on ITV (9 - 11pm) is the second episode of this 4 parter. The Fifties London cop investigates the double murder of a gifted young athlete and his new bride.

Meanwhile on Five (9 - 11:55pm ) The epic film Gladiator with Russell Crowe vies for our attention.

AT 10pm BBC3 presents the first episode on the new drama series Funland.
This stylish, ambitious drama aims to deliver a layer of dark comedy from a whirl of characters: a couple arrive in Blackpool for a dirty weekend; a man is set on a quest for justice; a crooked businessman has family troubles.
Oozing sexual fixations, it carries the stamp of League of Gentlemen writer Jeremy Dyson and, like that series, runs the risk of being too self-consciously grotesque to be comic. Yet this opener has a great cast and a strong story - too strong for some.

On Channel4 (10:10pm - 11:45pm) The network premiere film Swimfan also draws our attention.
Ben Cronin (Jesse Bradford) has it all: he's the high school swim champion, he's about to get a university scholarship and Amy (Shiri Appleby) adores him. But when he has a fling with Madison (Erika Christensen) in the pool one night then dumps her, he soon realises that a woman scorned is a dangerous woman.
John Polson's film, which has been compared to Fatal Attraction , is a taut thriller with genuinely scary moments as Madison becomes more psychotic.
