FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY: FROM GUYS TO DOLLS

11 June, 2006 by The_Boss

ITV1 Monday 12th June 2006 9:00pm to 10:00pm

For One Night Only is the series which gives ordinary people the chance to do something extraordinary – for just one night.

From Guys to Dolls challenges six burly workmen to become glitzy drag-queens and take to the stage for the performance of their lives at a flashy nightclub in front of an audience of party-goers.

The builders are taken to one of the country’s leading nightspots, Blackpool, to watch the drag queens of top club Funny Girls strut their stuff, before being put through their paces by the club’s choreographer, make-up artist and costume designer.

The programme follows the builders on their rollercoaster journey as they are shown how to tap dance, apply make-up, walk like women, sing like women, dress like women and even wax their legs.

As they struggle into their tights and bras, the workmen share their experience with the film, revealing their worries, excitement, what their families think and how it feels to become a lady.

Some of the workmen admit that they had reservations about meeting some of the drag queens. But as the film progresses their attitudes change.

One of the builders also reveals the battle he has faced with his teenage son, who is horrified that his dad wants to dress up as a woman.

At the end of the film the men are seen as they take to the stage in front of their families and friends – and the cameras are there to capture their reactions.
