Blue Peter to change title
24 May, 2006 by The_Boss
For the first time in its history CBBC's Blue Peter is changing its name - after 4,180 episodes and 47 years Blue Peter will go 'Green' on Wednesday 24 May.
For one day only Blue Peter will become Green Peter to look at the changes that are happening to the planet and look at ways the Green Peter audience can help limit the effects of climate change.
Forming part of the BBC's Climate Chaos season the show - on BBC ONE at 5.00pm - will come from the Green Peter garden and will look at a variety of subjects including alternative energy. The team will even attempt to boil a kettle with a bike.
The programme also features top tips on how to help the environment and Chris Collins will be planting a drought resistant garden.
There will also be a 'How green are you?' calculator on bbc.co.uk/cbbc.
Blue Peter Editor Richard Marson says: "We know from the thousands of emails we get from Blue Peter viewers that they are passionate and active about green issues. "Many are understandably scared about the future of their planet and how this will affect them.
"Green Peter won't be a list of scare stories, the purpose will be to focus on what is being done, what can be done, what needs to be done to protect the world the Blue Peter audience will inherit."
Blue Peter has a history of environmental awareness.
The green badge was launched in November 1988 and so far around 17,000 badges have been awarded to Blue Peter viewers.
